Battle Ground, WA is a medium sized city of Clark County. The city is named for a battle that many feared, but ironically enough, never came to be during the Yakima Indian uprisings of 1855. The city is nestled between the Cascade Mountains and the Pacific Ocean. The city has seven neighborhoods and is the 59th largest community in the state. It is a middle income community compared to federal standards and lower-middle income compared to state standards. Before the arrival of settlers, the area was inhabited by indigenous Chinook and Western Klickitat tribes. One of the first settlers to the area was John Tuke and became the first homesteader. However, unlike the older communities in the area like Fort Vancouver, the community of Battle Ground, WA was not really settled until 1886. Early industries included agriculture, diary and timber/logging. Augustus Richter is considered the town’s founder because he platted the town in 1902, the same year the railroad came through. The railroad opened the community up and helped inspire growth in the community. Growth continued at a rather stately pass, butfinally, in June of 1951 the city was incorporated. Today it is a bustling city with a warm atmosphere and countless opportunities for employment, entertainment and education.
