2021 Winter Wonderland at Portland International Raceway - Portland Living on the Cheap Winter Wonderland at Portland International Raceway

Every year, the Portland International Raceway is decked out in glorious twinkling lights and displays.  From the warmth and comfort of your own vehicle you can cruise the full 2 mile track while listening to the special radio station accompanying the display.  Tickets can be purchased online at https://winterwonderlandportland.com/ – and for 2021 they do need to be purchased online, so be sure to check for dates and availability before heading out!  All proceeds benefit the Sunshine Division, which is celebrating it’s 99th year this year!  They deliver emergency food and clothing boxes to families in need in Portland and it’s surrounding areas.

The Christmas Ships

Any local native will tell you that the Christmas Ships is one of the best traditions in the Pacific Northwest.  It started accidentally in 1954 by one lone sailboat.  It has since grown to almost 60 ships who set sail many nights until Christmas.  The parade route can be found on their website: http://www.christmasships.org/ – but be warned, the resturaunts along the waterfront fill up really quick for these nights!  So plan ahead if you want to dine while watching this water parade.  They are fully funded by generous donations from local businesses and individuals alike.  So if you enjoy their show, please consider donating on their site as well.

The Christmas Train

Take in the gorgeous views of the Pacific Northwest and the Lewis River from the Santa Train!   Enjoy cider, cocoa and hot coffee at the station – while each child receives their gift from Santa himself!  Month-long weekend excursions offering three diesel runs each Saturday and Sunday. Our 1941, ALCO S2 departs at 9:30 am, NOON, and 2:30 pm. from the station in Yacolt, WA.  This trip can be cold, so be prepared and dress accordingly.  Click here for more details or to purchase tickets:  http://tickets.bycx.org/
